How To Tell When You’re Ready For Botox

Medically Reviewed by Larisa Fridlyand, AGACNP-BC

Is there a “right time” to begin treating wrinkles? Not really! Each person’s skin is entirely unique to a host of life factors, including our own complexion goals! That said, there are a few signs it might be time to consider:

  • Where you notice lines taking form with your facial expressions
  • Lines that remain when the face is at rest
  • If you’re wanting to prevent wrinkles before they form

So how do you know you’re ready for wrinkle relaxers?

Preventing lines before they form

You may think botox isn’t for you if you’re young or already have stunning, supple skin. Not true! It’s an ideal option for those wanting to keep dynamic lines from progressing to static ones

How so?

Botox works at the molecular level. Upon injection, proteins bind to the receptors of those muscles responsible for wrinkling, causing the muscle to contract less.

By relaxing the facial muscles, botox is doing two things: It is a) keeping the self-correcting lines from developing further while b) diminishing the appearance and progression of already existing lines.

When you notice “temporary” lines

Facing a mirror, raise your eyebrows, furrow your eyebrows and make an exaggerated smile. See lines forming? These are called dynamic wrinkles.

Dynamic wrinkles are lines present on your face when your muscles move but go away once the face is at rest. However, the repeated contraction of your facial muscles over time will lead to loss of elasticity and collagen breakdown that causes permanent wrinkles to form.

When you see lines that won’t go away

Facing the mirror, do you see lines in place even when you aren’t making facial expressions? If so, these are your static wrinkles.

They stem from skin damage linked to many different forms of exposure including “photodamage” from the sun as well as smoking, genetics, poor nutrition and prolonged dynamic wrinkling.

Botox between your eyebrows, forehead and crow’s feet diminishes static wrinkles safely and effectively and prevents them from progressing further.

Cadencing your wrinkle treatment

The same way proteins in wrinkle relaxers gradually bind to the muscles they’re relaxing, effects from botox will gradually reduce over time as the body goes about metabolizing the treatment. This is why routine treatments are essential to keep existing wrinkles from advancing and new ones from surfacing; the recommended frequency for botox is every three to four months.

Does that mean botox is expensive? It doesn’t need to be! This will depend a great deal on where you’re going for treatment. For the more conventional practices that base service on the number of units your face needs – typical for doctor offices and med spas – it is true that cost can get unaffordable, and quickly.

That isn’t our model.

Instead we’ve designed treatment with transparent, fixed-rate pricing: $425 for the amount you need. This makes treatment affordable and ensures your desired look – without the lofty price tag.
